It is a well-established fact that thyroid hormone, which is secreted by the thyroid gland is thyroxine, also called T4. It is called T4 because it contains four iodine atoms. Of course, it is quite difficult to understand because of its biological terms; however, it is important to know because it regulates certain organs of body. In fact, it must also be noted that the amount of T4 produced by the thyroid gland is generally controlled by another hormone, which is produced and guided by the pituitary gland. Here, it must be understood that the pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain. It is also known as a thyroid stimulating hormone. Do you know thyroid is responsible for helping to regulate many of the body’s processes, such as metabolism, energy generation, as well as mood.

The amount of TSH that the pituitary transfers into the blood stream depends on the amount of T4 that the pituitary sees. If the pituitary sees very little T4, it produces more TSH. In other words, the thyroid and pituitary act like a heater and a thermostat. In simple terms, when the heater is off and it starts becoming colder, the thermostat reads the temperature and turns on the heater. When the heat escalates to a level, the thermostat automatically senses this and turns the heater off. However, if they start behaving abnormally, it is advisable to go for a thyroid test. Do you know thyroid gland is located below the Adam’s apple in the neck and it secretes hormones?
1. What Doctors Say

Doctors always suggest to go for blood tests in order to calibrate TSH, T4, T3 and T4 that are available as well as widely recognised. These types of tests are done to recognise disorders in people. In fact, such tests are suggested to measure mineral level in the body. Here, the most appropriate way to test thyroid function is to calibrate the level of TSH in a blood sample. A high TSH level shows that the thyroid gland is behaving abnormally because of an issue that is affecting the thyroid.
2. What is Thyroid Hormone

In reverse condition the TSH level is quite low, usually shows the person has an over-active thyroid, which is producing too much thyroid hormone. This shows that pituitary gland is not producing enough TSH, which prevents it from making enough TSH. In healthy people, a normal TSH value means that the thyroid is functioning properly and regulating body at an appropriate level.

Sometimes doctors suggest to go for thyroid antibody test if they find the disturbance in the immunity of a patient. Good immunity means, the body is capable of protecting itself from foreign objects like bacteria and viruses by damaging them with substances called antibodies. These antibodies are produced by blood cells known as lymphocytes. In many people with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, lymphocytes make antibodies against their thyroid that either motivate or damage the gland. Thyroid antibody test helps to measure the cause of the problem.
